FISHING RESPONSIBLY
Fishing line that cuts loose and is not retrieved is deadly to wildlife. We hate to see this loon suffering.
Besides the threat of entanglement with monofilament, ingesting lead fishing tackle continues to be the leading cause of death of loons in New Hampshire, accounting for 37% of documented adult loon deaths since 1989.
It is illegal in New Hampshire to use or purchase lead sinkers and jigs weighing one ounce or less. LPC has partnered with NH Fish and Game to initiate a lead tackle buyback program. You can exchange one ounce or more of lead tackle for a $20 store voucher at participating stores, including Rocky’s Ace Hardware.
