The Pleasant Lake Protective Association (PLPA) is partnering in a pilot project this year with Subtidal, a research-based company that is developing advanced, automated approaches to detecting and understanding the patterns and causes of cyanobacteria blooms. The PLPA has deployed a buoy in the open waters of Pleasant Lake near the Elkins end. Created and developed by Subtidal, this neon-yellow buoy will monitor for cyanobacteria and simultaneously record data on weather and lake conditions. These data will help the PLPA better understand the patterns and causes of the cyanobacteria blooms that have been observed in Pleasant Lake the past four years.
Please keep a distance of at least 100 feet from the buoy to avoid disturbance of the data collection.
And keep an eye out for the next issue of Ripples for more details on this collaborative pilot project, which is being funded by one of our generous PLPA families dedicated to protecting the environmental integrity of our lake and watershed.
