LPC typically will not be able to rescue a Loon until it is confined to a small opening in the ice (usually a circle of open water 15-20 feet or less in diameter). When they have more space than that to move around in, Loons are often able to evade capture. However, LPC wants to be informed about Loons that are starting to get iced-in before the situation reaches this point so that they can coordinate the best timing for a rescue.
