Get the Lead Out

The Pleasant Lake Protective Association asks that you all please consider participating in the PLPA "Get The Lead Out!" campaign. The campaign was prompted by the death of a Pleasant Lake Loon on July 6th, 2008. Loons must swallow small pebbles and stones to grind up the fish that they eat. One of the small stones was a lead sinker and the Loon died of lead poisoning within a week.

Lead is 100% fatal to Loons
& other Waterbirds!

The use of lead sinkers and jigs
is banned by law!

Lead is extremely dangerous to children!

Lead fish weights are much more concentrated than the lead in lead paint!

PLEASE GET ALL THE LEAD OUT OF YOUR TACKLE BOX AND OFF YOUR FISHING LINE!

What to do with your lead

Lead is a hazardous material and must be disposed of accordingly. Not sure if a sinker or jig is lead? Lead will write on paper like a pencil. How do you dispose of lead? You can drop your lead at Tight Lines Fly & Tackle Shop. You can leave it with the Lake Hosts at the Boat Launch. Members of the PLPA Wildlife Conservation Committee will come pick up your lead: Kittie Wilson 526-4069, Jen Esten 526-2589, Storm and Dee Connors 526-6024 or Betty Williamson 526-6052.

PLPA is also offering free packets of non-lead sinkers for your use. These are available at Tight Lines, from the Lake Hosts, or call 526-4069. Please use only non-lead sinkers and jigs when fishing.
